On Tuesday November 21st Explorer Course students had a two hour class on energy and sustainability. The class was taught by Tom Harris who is a project manager at The National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) in Golden, Colorado. NREL is the sole U.S. federal laboratory dedicated to research, development, commercialization, and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The class was interactive with students having discussions in groups, answering questions, and using their iPads to perform research. The students also were taught how to use one of NREL’s publicly available tools to estimate the proper solar panel installation size for a building.
